Excellent visitor response to Annapoorna – World of Food India
Dynamic growth in the Indian food sector
The inaugural Annapoorna – World of Food India in Mumbai achieved excellent results. From 1st to 3rd November 2006, 146 suppliers from 13 countries exhibited their products to 3,669 trade visitors from 39 countries at the Bombay Exhibition Center, NSE Estate Goregaon (East). They report that they held fruitful discussions with the high-ranking visitors, who represented leading hotel chains, importers, trading companies and other organisations. The fair was also attended by several delegations from abroad. Annapoorna – World of Food India is an Indian- German joint venture staged by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), the Confederation of Indian Food Trade and Industry (CIFTI), and Koelnmesse GmbH.
These results represent a widely praised launch for the new food fair in Mumbai. “The concept behind the event is to bring together supply and demand in the growing Indian market — and it certainly paid off,” reported Wolfgang Kranz, Executive Vice President of Koelnmesse GmbH at the end of the three-day trade fair. “It creates ideal conditions for building up highquality, long-term trading relations.”
At Annapoorna – World of Food India, exhibitors from around the world met 3 motivated, interested buyers with a high level of decision-making authority, including representatives of Reliance Industries Limited and Amul.
The largest numbers of trade visitors came from India and Far Eastern countries, such as the United Arab Emirates, India’s neighbouring countries, China and elsewhere in Asia.
They encountered a wide range of food, beverages and services extending from staple foods and preserves to fresh and frozen products, bread and baked goods, drinks and dairy produce. Almost 70 per cent of the suppliers came from outside India. The largest foreign contingent was the German delegation of 22 companies, most of which exhibited at the joint stand of the German Agricultural Marketing Board (CMA).
Other large groups from abroad came from Italy (17 companies), Spain (13), Thailand (11) and Korea (11). The national pavilions of Germany, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand attracted a great deal of interest. The event occupied a gross exhibition space of 5,300 m˛.
Annapoorna – World of Food India also featured a well-attended trade-specific supporting programme that addressed issues such as food safety.
The next Annapoorna – World of Food India takes place in Mumbai from 19th to 21st November 2007.
